Who Cares?

Music: Excerpts of George Gershwin arranged by Hershy Kay
Choreography: George Balanchine

Diablo Ballet presents an encore performance of George Balanchine’s iconic Who Cares?. When George Gershwin gave Balanchine a book of his songs, the gift sparked the idea for Who Cares?, one of the most joyous of the Balanchine ballets. This fast-stepping ballet evokes the lively spirit of Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers and the 1930s and portrays an exuberance that is broadly American and charged with a distinctive energy.

Berceuse

Music: Orchestral excerpts from French composer Benjamin Godard’s opera “Jocelyn”
Choreography: Penny Saunders

The intricate duet Berceuse by Penny Saunders, originally made its debut in 2011 for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, explores the nuanced line between classical and contemporary dance. The piece is a deeply musical pas de deux set to a lyrical lullaby by Benjamin Godard.  Diablo Ballet performed the ballet last season and is bringing it back for a repeat performance.

Two One Self

Music: Music: “N X E T” Simon Greenberg, “Morning Call” Marie, “La Joya” Aukai
Choreography: Michael Wells and Derion Loman

Two One Self by Diablo Ballet’s Michael Wells and choreographer Derion Loman, whose electrifying performances have been seen on American’s Got Talent and World of Dance, is a journey of the inner conscious and its connection to our physical being; how our thoughts affect our breath and pulse.  This work personifies how we talk ourselves out of anxieties and insecurities, into self-love and acceptance.

The Sleeping Beauty Wedding Pas de Deux, Variations and Coda

Music: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Choreography: Marius Petipa

This timeless fairytale is one of the world’s most beloved and captivating ballets, featuring the beautiful Princess Aurora, her handsome prince and the triumph of true love’s kiss will cast a spell on your heart. Staged by Company Regisseur and former principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet, Joanna Berman.
