What is it like to play such an iconic character as Cinderella? Meet the dancer who steps into those legendary glass slippers in Cinderella’s Wedding. Jackie McConnell has danced with Diablo Ballet for 9 years and we talk to her about the legendary fairytale character, as well as, the other ballets she will be dancing this February.
Q & A:
Q: Did you grow up watching Cinderella? What did you take away from her story?
A: I’ve always thought Cinderella was a great love story, showing that anything is possible especially when finding true love. In this production I really get to embrace that and experience of falling in love with my prince and getting married!
Q: In the Cinderella’s Wedding program, you are dancing classical, as well as, contemporary pieces. How hard is to transition from one to the other?
A: I love the challenge of a mixed-rep show! We get to go from dancing in pointe shoes to sliding around in socks to pointe shoes once again. Its hard to transition but luckily we rehearse all three ballets daily so we get used to it.
Q: Have you tried on the glass slipper?
A: There’s actually no glass slipper in this version…instead it’s a rhinestone embellished pointe shoe! I have a few pairs of pointe shoes that are covered in rhinestones. It’s definitely fun and on stage they catch the light so hopefully my feet sparkle!
